Ever wondered what wassailing means, anyway? This fruitier, sometimes boozier cousin to cider is the traditional beverage given to carolers go from house to house singing Christmas carols. But if you don't feel like pestering your neighbors with your vocal stylings, wassail makes an excellent festive drink to serve for any holiday occasion.
To garnish (optional): 1 cup cranberries, thinly sliced apple and oranges
Directions
Combine all ingredients except the brandy or cognac and garnishes in a large pot over medium-hight heat. Bring to a simmer and simmer for 20 minutes. Add the brandy or cognac and the garnishes just before serving.

2 cups orange juice
1 cup pineapple juice
10 whole cloves
5 cinnamon sticks
5 star anise
Pinch of nutmeg
1 cup brandy or cognac (optional)
